B.S. Human Ecology PreK-4 from UTC, 2002

While at UTC, I was able to participate in the Professional Development School where I was placed in several public schools, one being a magnet school. It was at that time, I realized I wanted to have the opportunity to teach students in that type of learning environment. Luckily for me, there was a new magnet school that peaked my interest (Normal Park) and it was opening the August after I graduated.

I was hired at Normal Park and began teaching third grade in August 2002. I had many rewarding and some challenging experiences for the next 5 years that I taught third grade. I left in October of 2007 for maternity leave, and during that time I was offered the Museum Liaison position at the lower school.

Since then, I have been privileged to work with each grade level in planning engaging learning expeditions and other community connections, as well as increasing student involvement in exhibit building.

I am also involved in the Junior Docent Program at the Hunter Museum of American Art. The program (which is an upper school club offering) is open to 5th-6th graders who are interested in learning more about art and being a docent at the Hunter for their classmates.

It has been a great opportunity to be involved at Normal Park for the last 7 years and I look forward to my child being able to experience this caring and devoted faculty and these exciting learning opportunities.
