Cinnamon Halbert-Smith has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Performance from the University of Texas at Austin and an Associate's Degree in Performing Arts from American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Her professional career has ranged from Broadway to community theatre, T.V., commercials and motion pictures.
Cinnamon began her training at the age of 8 years old under Lorrie Keller with StarDanceSwan. In training with Lorrie Keller she learned the basis of creative movement concepts that developed the core of her knowledge as a dancer, teacher and choreographer. Cinnamon has studied numerous techniques of modern dance from the companies of Bill Evans, Alvin Ailey, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Mark Morris, Jose Limon, Alvin Nickolais and many more. She has been honored to perform for acclaimed companies and choreographers including Alvin Ailey, Ririe Woodury, Colin Conner, Bill Evans, Harry Woolver, David Justin, Kent DeSpain, John Mead, Sharire Bustamante, Pennsylvania Dance Theatre, and VanDance to name a few.
Cinnamon's choreography has been performed at the American College Dance Festival (ACDF) in 2000 and 2004. One of her pieces was selected for the National ACDF and showcased at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C.
Since moving to Chattanooga, TN in 2004 Cinnamon's choreography has been performed at the opening of Ross's Landing (2005) and the Hunter Museum of American Art. Her work has also been showcased at Chattanooga Ballet and Girls Preparatory School. She is currently the Resident Choreographer and Co-Director of Project Motion at Center for Creative Arts, and in her fourth year of building a dance program at Normal Park Museum Magnet School, Pre-K through 8th grade. Cinnamon serves as adjunct instructor at Girls Preparatory School, working with the Upper School Dance Ensemble and has served as a mentor and adjudicator for Baylor School. She is proud to be on her second term with (TAD) Tennessee Association of Dance Board.
Cinnamon currently tours with Vandance and other professional dance companies all around the country. Most recently has been asked by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in China to provide Masters Classes to Educators on how to incorporate Dance and Creative Movement into their schools. She will spend the month of February, 2009 in Singapore providing this training.
