B.S. Biology - Saint Xavier University, Chicago IL, 1996
I spent the 6 years of 2003 - 2009 teaching high school science at Alan B. Shepard High School in Palos Heights, Illinois. I worked with grades 9-12 teaching subjects including: Integrated Science, Biology, Honors Anatomy/Physiology, and Honors Microbiology/Genetics. I have also performed team teaching 3 of my 6 years to serve students with special needs. In addition to my teaching duties I served on 10 different committees in the years 2005 - 2009. Some committees included: professional staff development, formative assessment, cooperative learning, teacher mentoring, school improvement team, test prep task force, and academic wall of fame committee. I have also served as assistant varsity basketball coach for 1 year and freshman baseball coach for 5 years. My teaching/coaching experiences and professional committee work have helped shape my abilities as an instructor and provided me unique opportunities to grow as a professional in the field of education.
Since moving to Chattanooga in June of 2009, I have had the pleasure to be teaching here at Normal Park Museum Magnet School. I am pleased to say how very impressed I am with the students, staff, parents, and success at Normal Park. The learning expeditions, relationships with museums, and exhibit projects are great examples of the level of high-quality education that are the mark of a truly excellent school. The common thread I've recognized quickly here in the community of Normal Park is the value of learning. Lower school, upper school, administration, teachers, parents, community members, and students are very aligned with the idea that learning is lifelong and we are all part of that incredible process. I feel very fortunate to be a part of this process and look forward to continued success!
